Two Portland Timbers fans have been arrested and banned from Providence Park after allegedly hitting New York City FC winger Jesús Medina in the head with a can during Saturday’s MLS Cup final.

The can toss occurred late in the first half of the match after NYCFC took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Taty Castellanos. Video replay showed a can flying from the crowd into a group of players huddling in celebration, striking Medina.

Medina managed to stay in the match after receiving attention from trainers, but the apparent throwers of the can weren’t so lucky.

First, the Timbers announced that the fan who threw the can had been ejected from the match and banned from the stadium.

Then, Oregon’s KPTV reported 24-year-old Ivan Carrillo and 31-year-old Eduardo Ramos had been arrested. Carrillo reportedly faces misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and attempted assault, while Ramos was only hit with a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge.

As all of that played out, NYCFC took its 1-0 lead all the way into the final minute of stoppage time, watched Portland send it to extra time on a miracle goal and eventually pulled out its first MLS Cup title on penalties.

Medina remained in the match until the 95th minute, when he was subbed out for Talles Magno.
