2025 IMG WR Winston Watkins Jr. commits to Texas A&M

Texas A&M closed the Early Signing Period with the top-rated 2022 class in the country pushing past Alabama and Georgia for the lead. The Aggies got a big jumpstart on the 2025 recruiting haul landing a verbal commitment from IMG Academy receiver Winston Watkins Jr. Monday night.

After playing varsity ball as an eighth grader for Evangelical Christian in Fort Myers, the Florida prospect started drawing national recruiting attention. The move to a talent rich IMG Academy squad for the 2021 season didn’t hurt having extra scouting eyes on him along with the cousin bloodlines that includes former Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins and UAB receiver Austin Watkins.

Before performing at the FBU Freshman All-American Bowl in Naples (Fla.) on Monday, Watkins took center stage with Florida State, Florida, Texas A&M, and Georgia Tech hats in front of him. Quickly picking up the Texas A&M hat, the Aggies got one of the best players in the nation on board.

Watkins spoke about his commitment, “It was my connection with the Texas A&M’s coaching staff and coach (Jimbo) Fisher. I love it there.”

Ahead of his public announcement, Watkins reached out to A&M’s staff to share the good news with them first, “I committed to coach Fisher. He was excited when I told him I was committing.”

Although verbally tied to A&M, expect the offers to continue to roll in for Watkins. During his eighth-grade season with the Sentinels, Watkins was a contributor in all three phases of the game. On offense, he was a play making machine hauling in 25 passes for 430 yards with two scores while rushing for 199 yards off 30 carries with another trip into the end zone. Playing behind highly recruited seniors this fall, Watkins will get an opportunity in 2022 to showcase his skills yet again on a national stage.
