49ers beat Cowboys in hard-nosed defensive battle to reach NFC Championship Game

The San Francisco 49ers held off the Dallas Cowboys in a gritty defensive showdown to win 19-12 and advance to the NFC Championship where they’ll meet the Philadelphia Eagles.

Rookie quarterback sensation Brock Purdy had a difficult time contending with a ferocious Dallas pass rush, but found a connection with TE George Kittle in the second half that sparked a decisive 10-point fourth quarter for the 49ers.

It was a surprisingly low-scoring, up-the-gut-run-heavy affair between two of the league’s most electrifying offences — their defences were the difference today.

San Francisco gained 312 yards of offence, while Dallas only mustered 282 yards.

The 49ers will travel across the country to Philadelphia next weekend to take on the Eagles for a shot at playing in the Superbowl.
