Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first against Oman in the must-win here at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground (Ministry Turf 1), Al Amerat on Tuesday. Bangladesh have made one change to their playing XI as Sarkar was left out for Naim.
Oman (Playing XI): Jatinder Singh, Aqib Ilyas, Kashyap Prajapati, Zeeshan Maqsood(c), Mohammad Nadeem, Ayaan Khan, Sandeep Goud, Naseem Khushi(w), Kaleemullah, Fayyaz Butt, Bilal Khan
Bangladesh (Playing XI): Liton Das, Mohammad Naim, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah(c), Afif Hossain, Nurul Hasan(w), Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman
Both team captains at the toss
Maqsood: Happy to bowl. Just one thing – have to keep them to a low total. We have pressure from first game, not this game.
Mahmudullah: Going to have a bat, put some runs on the board and try to defend it. Dew is a factor and it’s been in our consideration. But we’d like to have a good total on the board. Batting wise we didn’t build enough partnerships. Today’s another opportunity. One change – Naim comes in for Sarkar.

Oman vs Bangladesh Live: Handed a rude shock in their T20 World Cup opener, Bangladesh will have to sort some self-confessed batting problems and play as per their reputation in a must-win game against upbeat hosts Oman here on Tuesday. Bangladesh came into the tournament as the 6th ranked team which had beaten New Zealand and Australia at home.
However, they were were found wanting against a spirited Scotland on Sunday and lost the game by six runs due to an ordinary batting performance. Bangladesh were expected to run away with it after reducing Scotland to 53 for six but the pressure of the big stage perhaps got the the better of them.
Skipper Mahmudullah blamed the batters for the unexpected loss and said they must perform better against Oman, who thrashed Papua New Guinea in their opener. Bangladesh need to win on Tuesday to keep themselves in contention for a spot in the Super-12 stage.
“As a batting unit, we have disappointed ourselves, so it’s a big concern, and we need to see things where we have made those mistakes and probably need to try not to repeat those mistakes in the next game,” said Mahmudullah.
Bangladesh bowlers were brilliant at the start of the game but should not have allowed their opponents to score 140 from the very precarious situation.
With pitches expected to remain on the slower side, stroke making will not be easy and the batters will have to find a way to get the boundaries and those quick singles.
Oman aiming for a top-two spot in Group B: Oman had a dream start to their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign as they registered a thumping 10 wickets win over Papua New Guinea in the curtain-raiser. Bilal Khan and Kaleemullah showed just why they are considered one of the most dangerous new-ball pairs in Associate cricket dismissing both PNG openers for a duck. Skipper Zeeshan Maqsood’s 4-20, including three wickets in an over, and fifties from openers Jatinder Singh and Aqib Ilyas shows how competitive Oman is at home.
The co-hosts were the last team to enter the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 after thrashing Hong Kong by 12 runs in the playoff stages of the qualifier in 2019 & can be the first to advance in Super 12 from Group B if Bangladesh doesn’t step up.

Bangladesh looks to bounce back after a defeat in the opener: After failing to finish in the top eight positions, Bangladesh looked promising ahead of the T20 World Cup, winning seven out of ten last T20Is. However, their campaign is going off track seeing their recent performances in the UAE. They faced defeats in both their warmup games and fell short by 6 runs while chasing a modest total against Scotland in the opening fixture on Sunday. Group B is now wide open and Mahmudullah led side now needs to win both its remaining games handsomely to finish in the top two spots as or else, they will be out of the competition even before top eight ranked teams begin their campaign.
