Highlights: Barcelona stars make the difference with goal & assist in Spain win

Two members of Xavi Hernandez’s Barcelona’s ranks took centre stage on Saturday evening, as Spain left it late to get the better of Albania.

Luis Enrique’s troops were back in action a short time ago.

As part of the nation’s latest round of warmup fixtures ahead of this year’s fast-approaching Qatar World Cup, La Roja welcomed the aforementioned Albania to the RCDE Stadium, for a friendly clash.

Spain headed into proceedings hopeful of making it a trio of successive wins across all competitions, and, when all was said and done, this is precisely what the evening’s hosts managed.

January Barcelona addition Ferran Torres broke the deadlock with fifteen minutes remaining, latching onto Yeremy Pino’s pass to pick out the far corner in clinical fashion:

Albania, however, threw a spanner in the works ten minutes later, courtesy of a bizarre finish on the part of Myrto Uzuni:

But, just when it appeared as though proceedings were set to play out into a stalemate, the quality boasted by the hosts proved telling, as Jordi Alba pulled back for Dani Olmo to direct a sumptuous effort into the top corner of Albania’s net, sealing a 2-1 win in the process:

Depay on target

Torres and Alba are not the only members of Xavi’s Barcelona ranks to have provided telling contributions in front of goal on the international stage on Saturday, though.

Also on target during the Netherlands’ showdown with Denmark was Blaugrana attacker Memphis Depay.

Amid a pulsating clash to date, which currently sees the Dutch hosts in possession of a one-goal advantage, Depay stepped up to slot home his country’s 3rd from twelve yards late in the first-half of action:
