Bulldogs Lachlan Lewis contract, England, Queensland, Brad Fittler says

Rugby league great Brad Fittler says Lachlan Lewis may have no choice but to head overseas or play at Queensland Cup level if he’s to continue playing rugby league.

Lewis’ contract with the Canterbury Bulldogs was officially torn up earlier this week after he allegedly stole property belonging to the club and attempted to sell it on eBay.

The 25-year-old halfback, who was off-contract at the end of this year, played just 43 games for the club, including six this season, after debuting back in 2018.

Rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns said he would be surprised if the nephew of the legendary Wally Lewis had any idea of how his future might look going forward.

“I wouldn’t have a clue and I don’t think he has a clue either,” Johns told Wide World of Sports’ Freddy and The Eighth.

Fittler agreed although admitted he was a fan of some of Lewis’ attributes. The NSW coach said it was surprising that a playmnaker of Lewis’ talent was unable to hold down a spot in a team that’s been one one of the poorest performers in the NRL throughout his career.

“I’m backing Joey, I haven’t got any idea,” Fittler added.

“I really like how he plays sometimes… the fact is the club only won three games this year.

“In the last two years, there’s been not many more.

“He hasn’t been able to cement a position in that time, in a team that’s won that minimal (amount) of games.

“Whether it’s England or whether it’s back to Queensland… I like some of his footy, there are some things he does really well in the game.”
