Canadiens recall Cayden Primeau with Jake Allen injured

The Montreal Canadiens have recalled goaltender Cayden Primeau from the team’s taxi squad on emergency basis after Jake Allen left Wednesday’s game against the Boston Bruins with an injury. The Canadiens are playing the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.

During the final commercial break of the first period, cameras caught Allen discussing something with a trainer before leaving the ice. Samuel Montembeault replaced him in the net with the Bruins leading 2-0.

Allen’s specific injury wasn’t immediately known, but he appeared to be slow to get up after the second Bruins goal — a shot from Brad Marchand that beat Allen five-hole.

No further information on Allen’s injury was provided as of Thursday morning.

In other roster moves, the Canadiens have removed Kale Clague from the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol. He will join the team in Chicago.

Primeau has played three games with the Canadiens this season, posting a .904 save percentage.
