Chelsea’s poor form continued at Tottenham as they lost to their Champions League rivals with Graham Potter looking for more time to turn around the Blues’ fortunes.

Chelsea’s problems continued as they were beaten by Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

Defeat in north London means the top four are further away with the Blues sitting in 10th having lost more than they have won this season. Graham Potter should be asking more questions about his future and saw Thiago Silva limped off from the start through injury.

Huge sums of money have been spent on the Chelsea squad, which has only increased expectations at Stamford Bridge, but they look set to miss a season in the Champions League. More newcomers could still be heading to the Blues as they eye their next catch.

Here are the latest news lines coming from west London.

Potter begged for time
Graham Potter says he needs the time given to Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp to turn around Chelsea’s poor form.

Potter has been under increased pressure after his side were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. The Blues have won only two of their last 15 Premier League games and are 10th, 14 points adrift of Spurs in fourth.

Asked in his post-match press conference if he still had support from above, Potter said: “Yeah, there’s always those questions, of course. And you can’t stop the questions. And even if it turns out like that, I accept it.” – it’s part of the job.

“We spoke before the game about watching All or Nothing and Arsenal, two years after Mikel was in charge he was almost sacked and people wanted him out and it was a disaster. And now things have changed a bit – and it’s just the way it is.”

Graham Potter saw his team lose once again

Blue eyes of a young South American
Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement to sign Ecuadorian wonderkid Kendry Paez from Independiente del Valle, it is claimed.

The 15-year-old midfielder, who was born in May 2007, is said to be on the radar of Manchester United, Manchester City and Bundesliga Bayer Leverkusen, while Real Madrid have also been linked with an interest. Chelsea, however, appear to have won the fierce race for Paez, who is considered one of the most promising talents in South America.

Reports from Italy say that a deal has stalled with Independiente, increasing Blues head Todd Boehly’s spending by £600 million. Unfortunately for Blues fans, they won’t be able to see him in action for their club until he turns 18 on 4 May 2025. Earlier this month, The Sun claimed that Chelsea had seen their £14.8m bid rejected, meaning that Paez will likely swallow the Blues cost over £15 million.

Hakim Ziyech was initially sent off, but the decision was overturned

Ziyech red upside down
Hakim Ziyech saw the red card overturned by VAR following a very strange incident in the closing stages of the first half Tottenham vs Chelsea.

Ziyech brought down Richarlison in a poor challenge before the melee started when the Brazilian reacted by shoving the Chelsea winger. Ziyech initially appeared to be avoiding any punishment, with referee Stuart Attwell showing yellow cards to Kai Havertz and Emerson Royal for their involvement in pushing and shoving.

Attwell spoke to his assistant, Darren Cann, on the sidelines before making his decision. But after hearing Paul Tierney’s VAR on his earpiece, Attwell showed a straight red card to Ziyech, who had clearly put his hand to Royal’s face – an incident Attwell appeared to have missed the first time around.
