Lionel Messi was the center of attention in Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-1 win over Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday 19 September. Coach Mauricio Pochettino decided to replace the 34-year-old striker 15 minutes before the game after Messi barely affected the game.

The French publication Le Parisien (via MARCA) criticized Lionel Messi’s performance against Lyon most critically. The French media house claimed Messi was no longer able to influence the game like he used to at Barcelona.

Le Parisien wrote as follows:

“His time in Paris is going to be more complicated than expected. Messi withers. He bows his head lower and lower, he leaves and no longer influences the game.”
Lionel Messi has not made the most of his home debuts for Paris Saint-Germain. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner failed to show any effect before being substituted for full-back Achraf Hakimi in the 76th minute.

PSG needed a late winner from Messi’s compatriot Mauro Icardi to give the Paris giants a 2-1 win over Lyon. The win meant they could maintain their 100% start to the new Ligue 1 season.

Lionel Messi looked particularly unhappy after being replaced by Mauricio Pochettino. The 34-year-old Argentinian did not celebrate Icardi’s win because he was not happy with his game.

Lionel Messi has got off to a slow start in life at Paris Saint-Germain

Lionel Messi’s free transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain was one of the most prominent moves in the recently closed summer transfer window.

Despite the hype surrounding the move, Lionel Messi has made a slow start to his life at PSG. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has yet to score his first goal for his new team.

The former Barcelona captain has played three games for PSG so far but completed the full 90 minutes in just one. It came against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League, which ended in a disappointing 1-1 for the Parisian giants.

Lionel Messi has little influence on his new team from today’s perspective. PSG are hoping the six-time Ballon d’Or winner will get back in shape as soon as possible to regain supremacy in Ligue 1 this season. They will also try to win their elusive Champions League title in the 2021-22 season.

Lionel Messi has received a lot of criticism for his slow start at PSG. In addition, his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo made an electric start on his return to Manchester United. While Messi struggled to adjust to his new surroundings, Cristiano Ronaldo had an immediate impact on his new team, scoring four goals in three games so far.
