Riyad Mahrez scored two goals when defending champions Manchester City came from behind to beat League One Wycombe and advance to the Carabao Cup round of 16.

The visitors took a shocked lead through Brandon Hanlan, but Kevin de Bruyne equalized seven minutes later.

Mahrez scored his double on both sides of the half, with Phil Foden and Ferran Torres also defeating veteran goalkeeper David Stockdale.

Substitute Cole Palmer, 19, added sixth with his first goal for the club.

He ran from the center line before making an arc with a fine left-foot shot from 20 yards.

It was an all-round successful night for the City youngsters as Pep Guardiola made their senior debut for Academy graduates Conrad Egan-Riley, Luke Mbete, Finley Burns, Josh Wilson-Esbrand and Romeo Lavia.

Defender Wilson-Esbrand was particularly impressive, with excellent control and reduced assistance from Mahrez for City’s second goal.

The win means that Guardiola’s team has been unbeaten in the competition since October 2016 and has reached the round of 16 for the fifth time in a row.

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola: “I will just give my heartfelt thanks to the entire academy. They have a lot of good players, not just one or two. We can absolutely rely on them. With their skills and their will, they have it in this one Club. I am so proud to be the manager of this club. “

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth: “The first 22 minutes were special! What a moment for the fans who have traveled so far. A few months ago they were locked in their homes and couldn’t see us in the championship. Those scenes when the gate went in were amazing. “
