Manchester City sued Liverpool fans for allegedly spitting on Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff during the 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday (3/10/2021).

The incident is believed to have occurred at the Main Stand, where the dugout is located, as Guardiola and his team-mates celebrated Phil Foden’s equaliser.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the Reds have received City’s complaint and have immediately launched an investigation into the incident.

Now, Liverpool will study the CCTV footage to try to identify the fan who committed the disgraceful act.

City coach, Guardiola also spoke about the incident. He believes Liverpool will take decisive action.

“I’m pretty sure Liverpool FC will take action for this guy. Liverpool is bigger than this guy. Liverpool have historically helped make the sport better,” the bald-headed coach said in a post-match interview.

The former Barcelona coach can understand the emotions of fans given that the match was fierce but he hopes Liverpool can make the right decision regarding the incident.

“There are always people who will do that. In every club there are people like this. Some can’t control their emotions. I’m pretty sure Liverpool FC will handle it.”

Furthermore, Guardiola spoke about the game the two top Premier League teams played at Anfield.

“What a game. That’s the reason the last years Man City and Liverpool were always there because we tried to play in this way,” he continued.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t win, but we didn’t lose. That’s why the Premier League is the best (which can go either way). That’s the result, it’s great.”
The Reds took the lead twice through goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah before City equalized twice thanks to Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne.

Thus, Liverpool failed to return to the top of the standings after being overtaken by Chelsea. The Reds are in second place with 15 points, while City are in third place with 14 points.
