After the match, when Jasprit Bumrah was asked what would be a safe total on the Cape Town wicket?
India’s Day 2 hero said: “Obviously, there is no magic number that I can say right now that this is the magic number. We will have to assess the wicket quickly. We have bowled on it, it is a new ball wicket. There is some seam movement with the new ball and as soon as the ball gets older, seam goes down and it gets easier. It would be important for us to have good partnerships, take BIG LEAD”
What will be the magic number? Newlands is not known for too big a chases. The stats suggest that anything above 250+ should be a very difficult for South Africa to chase.
- 236 Runs score is the highest ever chase in Newlands, Capetown.
- Only two times 200+ total has been chased in the history of this ground
- In 2007 Series, South Africa succesfully chased 211 Runs target set by India
- It’s clear, India needs to give a target above 250 to feel little safe in their pursuit to conquer final frontier.
