Former Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen is bringing to an end his time with Stoke City.

The 32-year-old moved to the Britannia stadium from Anfield in a £13million switch six years ago. But despite being offered a new contract by Stoke, he has chosen to turn it down and can now leave on a free transfer.

Nicknamed ‘the Welsh Xavi’ by Brendan Rodgers, Allen will now consider his options elsewhere, with a move to Swansea City a possibility.

Jurgen Klopp has favoured 4-3-3 throughout his time at Liverpool. The Reds have developed a strong association with the system, having used it to win every available piece of silverware over the past few years.

The German coach is in the process of constructing a new-look team at the moment, with Sadio Mane joining Bayern Munich this summer. On the back of Liverpool’s recent transfer business, much of the talk ahead of next season surrounds the prospect of 4-2-3-1 at Anfield.

With Klopp toying with the prospect of changing formation in the coming months, which players could benefit, and which players could suffer? Let’s take a look at the potential winners and losers in the squad if 4-2-3-1 becomes the first-choice option.

It’s Darwin Nunez’ first birthday as a Liverpool player today!

The Uruguayan turns 23 today and is no doubt celebrating somewhere warm, after a long season.

Happy birthday Darwin!

Is Michael Edwards set to follow in the footsteps of Fernando Torres by moving to Stamford Bridge?

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool’s now ex-Sporting Director, who has been credited with pulling off a plethora of brilliant transfer deals during his time at Anfield, has now been approached by Chelsea to become their new Sporting Director.

Edwards officially left the Reds earlier this month to take a break from football but was approached by both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain before he’d even got out of the building. Now new Blues owner Todd Boehly wants the 42-year-old for himself.

It would tale something pretty special to prevent Edwards from taking the sabatical that he desired, but Jurgen Klopp’s football break was also short-lived and the rest is history.

Noise around Jude Bellingham joining Liverpool won’t go away and another transfer relayer has shared his view on the possibility of the England international getting a move to Anfield in 12 months time.

Fabrizio Romano has Tweeted: “I’m sure Liverpool will be in the running for Jude Bellingham next summer. Let’s wait and see what Borussia Dortmund plans for next summer. But Liverpool will be in the running for him.”

Let’s see indeed.

After first being mentioned by the Times‘ Paul Joyce earlier this month, Liverpool have now made their pre-season friendly with Red Bull Salzburg official.

The match will be played in Austria on Wednesday, July 27, with kickoff set for 7pm (BST).

The Reds are now scheduled to play six matches before their Premier League campaign gets underway against Fulham on August 6.

Neco Williams looks to be edging closer to a permanent Liverpool exit with Nottingham Forest in talks to sign him for £15 million, according to the Telegraph. Fulham are also have said to have stepped up their interest in the Welshman in recent days

Timo Werner and Raheem Sterling have both been linked with Liverpool today, with Football Insider claiming the Reds are considering the Chelsea forward, while Football Transfers claim Liverpool were Sterling’s first-choice destination this summer. Unlikely, but would you?

Caoimhin Kelleher will not be leaving Liverpool this summer, with the Reds set to benefit from the Republic of Ireland’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, according to David Lynch for

We’ll never see Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah play together for Liverpool again – and we’re still not quite over it.

Liverpool’s business this summer in terms of incomings may be over. But that does not mean that the rest of the Premier League are also sitting idle.

One of the newest members of the league, Nottingham Forest, seem to be plotting an ambitions plan to maintain their status in the Premier League ahead of their return to England’s top flight and that involves some savvy recruitment which could also put cash into FSG’s pocket this summer.

Former Liverpool forward, Taiwo Awoniyi, may have been an enigmatic figure at Anfield, but since his departure from the club on a permanent basis last summer, the Nigerian international has hit the ground running with an impressive run of form at Union Berlin.

His prolific campaign which saw him make 25 goal contributions in 43 games is now expected to net Union Berlin £17.5m with Nottingham Forest looking to wrap up a deal for Awoniyi. A portion of that will go straight to Liverpool as the club’s former sporting director, Michael Edwards, inserted a 10 per cent sell on clause into the deal with Union Berlin last summer.

A sum of £1.75m may seem meagre in today’s market (and it might actually be only 10 per cent of the profit that Liverpool take home), but as the common adage goes: every penny counts.

Liverpool, though, may not only benefit from Awoniyi’s transfer to Nottingham financially but his arrival could also trigger the club’s scouts to take a look at a potential future target in Brennan Johnson. Johnson caught the eye against Liverpool in the FA Cup last season, and he is a player who is of similar profile to Roberto Firmino — whose contract expires at Liverpool next summer.

Awoniyi’s arrival could bring the best out of Johnson with the two expected to form a partnership together and Liverpool could get a closer look at how Johnson would fit into the club’s system considering according FBref, Awoniyi is one of the top 10 players who is most similar to Darwin Núñez.

Johnson scored 19 goals and registered nine assists in 53 appearances for Nottingham Forest last season and if he can replicate anywhere close to that figure next season considering his versatility and tenacious playing style, Liverpool will struggle to find a better candidate to replace the potentially departing Firmino — especially one who is still so young and has so much room to improve at 21 years of age.

Awoniyi could help Johnson get to another level, and his arrival in the Premier League could end up not only bringing Liverpool further financial reward, but also paving the way for the Reds to find an ideal successor to one of Jürgen Klopp’s old guards.

Liverpool have ensured that their top targets have been secured this summer and, after focusing all of their attention on bringing three signings into the club, they have stressed that no more fresh faces will be walking through the doors this summer.

The Reds said goodbye to Sadio Mane this week after he completed a move to Bayern Munich, and reports have suggested that, despite rumours, a deal for Marco Asensio will not be pursued for now. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side are ‘ready’ to take advantage of Matthijs de Ligt’s contract stalemate with Juventus.

Having been linked with a move for Mathhijs de Ligt earlier this year, the latest reports have once again mentioned that Liverpool remain interested in the Netherlands international following the news that Juventus are looking to offload him this summer.

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, via the Liverpool ECHO, Juventus have failed to convince De Ligt to sign a new contract to stay in Turin and the Reds are ready to exploit the contract impasse.

De Ligt is said to be the highest paid player in the Juventus squad and that they do not want to pay him the same amount again. He is thought to be on an annual salary of €8m, which equates to around £132,000 per week.

Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Marco Asensio this summer after it was revealed that the Real Madrid winger is looking to move on from the Santiago Bernabeu as he goes in search of more regular game time, with Jurgen Klopp being an admirer of the Spaniard.

However, the Reds have insisted that they will not be spending any more money this summer after already signing Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsay, while they also possess Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota in the forward positions.

As well as this, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, via the Express, believes that it would be “really difficult” for Asensio to move to Anfield this summer, although the Reds could come back to the situation should they change their mind towards the end of the window.

Liverpool defender Billy Koumetio has completed a season-long loan switch to Austria Vienna ahead of the upcoming campaign, as the 19-year-old looks to continue his development abroad.

With Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez already in their ranks, Liverpool are well stocked in the centre-back area and this has allowed Koumetio to achieve regular first team football elsewhere.

The 6ft 5in defender has been involved with the first team since the 2020-21 season, where he made his debut as a substitute in the UEFA Champions League group stage draw with Midtjylland in December 2020, before making one Carabao Cup appearance last term.

Liverpool are one of a handful of Premier League clubs Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot is interested in signing for this summer, according to reports.

The French midfielder is reportedly looking to end his three-year stay in Turin as he bids to kick-start his career elsewhere, with Premier League clubs competing in the Champions League at the top of his wishlist.

According to the Telegraph’s Jason Burt, the 27-year-old has made it clear that he wishes to leave, despite having a year left on his contract, and the Italian giants have agreed to his request with the midfielder reportedly being available for as little as £13m.

Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham are thought to be the teams Rabiot has the greatest interest in joining due to securing Champions League football last season.

The midfielder had previously worked with current Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel during their time at PSG together, where the Frenchman made 227 appearances across a seven-year spell in Paris.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have bolstered their squad with three signings during the summer transfer window so far, with Calvin Ramsay’s arrival at Kirkby last week following Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez.

Roberto Firmino has been tipped to leave Liverpool next season.

The break-up of Liverpool’s famous front three has started this summer with Sadio Mane joining Bayern Munich. The 30-year-old has left Anfield after six years on Merseyside to link up with the Bundesliga giants in a £35m deal.

Before Mane completed his move to Bayern, his contract at Liverpool was originally scheduled to run out next summer. It’s the same for Firmino, who is now into the final year of his deal with the club.

Kostas Tsimikas is enjoying his holiday before the hard work of pre-season gets underway at the AXA Training Centre on July 4.

It was revealed earlier today that Liverpool will be in the ‘race’ for Jude Bellingham if he is to leave Borussia Dortmund next summer.

The Reds are known to be hufge admirers of the midfielder and are in need of a refreshment in the middle of the park. Could Bellingham be that man?

With Michael Edwards no longer in a job, it doesn’t come as a surprise that clubs are circling to try and tempt him back into work after leaving his role at Liverpool.

Edwards is regarded as one of the best in his position and Chelsea are pushing ahead with pursuing the sporting director, according to reports today.

Liverpool have sent Billy Koumetio on loan to Austria Vienna for the 2022/23 season, writes Theo Squires.

The 19-year-old, who joined the Reds’ academy in 2018, has made two appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s first team to date.

The ECHO understands a number of clubs were interested in signing the defender on loan, but he opted for Austria Vienna, who had been tracking him for some time, having been impressed by head coach Manfred Schmid, the club’s philosophy and its facilities.

The wheels were well and truly put into motion at Chelsea this week, writes Dave Powell.

Todd Boehly wants to change things up at Chelsea but still be in the hunt for trophies. The 48-year-old is an admirer of the way that Fenway Sports Group have managed to successfully deliver their approach in baseball and apply it to football by focusing on the right players as opposed to the most expensive ones.

Boehly himself is said to be data driven, and having seen how Liverpool have managed to use their investment into that side of the game to their advantage it is expected to be a focus, with signings of the ilk of Lukaku’s last year expected to be a thing of the past under the new regime, with a different type of player profile identified and a more concerted effort to manage wage liabilities and where the money is spent.

Megan Campbell has signed a new contract with Liverpool Women, the club have confirmed.

The Reds are set to return to the WSL next season following their Championship winning campaign and the defender’s extension will be welcomed news as they prepare for life back in the top flight.

Leeds United have ‘identified’ rumoured Liverpool target Cody Gakpo as Raphinha’s replacement, according to reports.

Raphinha has been linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer with Barcelona rumoured to be leading the race for the Brazilian.

Now, according to FootMercato, Leeds view the Dutchman as a potential replacement and would have ‘no trouble’ meeting the reported £26m asking price.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal are among the clubs to also be linked with the PSV Eindhoven winger but if reports are anything to go by, Leeds could be about to make the first move.

Rumoured Liverpool target Christopher Nkunku has signed a two-year contract extension with RB Leipzig.

The forward had been linked with a number of clubs this summer, including the Reds and Premier League rivals Chelsea.

However, he’s now set to remain in the Bundesliga with a new contract until 2026, which reportedly includes a €60m release clause.
