Madrid Masters LIVE: Verma vs Tsuneyama LIVE – Sameer Verma is in action against second seed Kanta Tsuneyama in the second round. Sameer Verma has lost the first game. PV Sindhu defeated Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardhini 21-14, 21-16 to enter the quarterfinals at the Madrid Masters 2023. Kidambi Srikanth also clinched a straight game win against Sai Praneeth in the second round. Srikanth completely dominated against his comptariot as he sealed a 21-15, 21-12 win on Thursday, 30th March 2023. Meanwhile, Kiran George has bowed put from the tournament after losing against Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen. Aakarshi Kashyap. Ashmitha Chaliha, Malvika Basod will play later in the day.

Kidambi Srikanth vs Sai Praneeth
Kidambi Srikanth has reached his first quarterfinal in the BWF Tour this year. The fifth seeded Indian defeated his compatriot Sai Praneeth 21-15, 21-12 in the second round.With the victory, Srikanth has leveleed the head-to-head record between both the players 5-5.
Srikanth started the game on the front foot right from the start. He took an early lead and entered the mid-game interval in the first game with a 11-6 lead. After the break, trailing 8-12, Praneeth fought back with four straight points and levelled the scores 12-12. But an error from Praneeth allowed Srikanth to be in the lead.
Praneeth fought back and took 14-13 lead. Neck-to-neck battle ensued. At 16-15, Srikanth brought forth his attacking game. With three successive smashes, he took 19-15 lead and from then on easily closed out the game 21-15.
In the second game too Srikanth took early lead and entered the interaval with a four-point lead. Errors from Sai Praneeth’s end mounted as Srikanth got nine match points at hand. Leading 20-11, another net-error from Sai Praneeth helped Srikanth win the contest.
Kiran George vs Magnus Johannesen
Kiran George won his first match in the BWF Tour this year. He defeated compatriot Mithun Manjunath in straight sets in the first round. George now faces Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen in the second round.
Johannesen is ranked 55th in the world and he entered the main draw after playing the qualifiers. Johannesen defeated Spain’s Luis Penalver in three games in the first round. Both the players will be facing for the first time.
Priyanshu Rajawat vs Toma Junior Popov
Priyanshu Rajawat made it to the main draw after winning his matches in the qualifier. He faced Denmark’s Victor Svendensen in the first round and clinched a 18-21, 21-16, 21-11 win to advance to the second round. He now faces 8th seed Toma Junior Popov in the second round. Toma Popov defeated Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chun-yi in the first round. Both the players will be facing each other for the first time in the tour.
Sameer Verma vs Kanta Tsuneyama
Sameer Verma clinched a three-set win against Nhat Nguyen in the first round. He now faces a tough challenge as he will be up against second seed Kanta Tsuneyama. The Japanese defeated Brian Yang in straight games in the first round.
Both the players will be facing each other for the third time in the tour. They have won one game each. Their last meeting came in the Denmark Open in 2019. Sameer Verma won the match in straight games.
Women’s Singles
PV Sindhu vs Putri Kusuma Wardhini
PV Sindhu won her first round contest against Jenjira Stadelman in straight games. She now faces Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardhini in a repeat of the second round contest at the Swiss Open earlier this year. The Indonesian defeated Sindhu in three games in the tournament last week. Sindhu now eyes revenge.
Wardhini meanwhile defeated Lianne Tan in straight games in the first round at Madrid. She made it to the quarterfinal at the Swiss Open last week and aims another deep run at Madrid Open. The upcoming contest will be the second meeting between the duo.
In the Women’s Singles, Ashmitha Chaliha, Malvika Bansod and Aakarshi Kashyap will also be in action in the second round. Ashmitha Chaliha faces Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min in the first round. Aakarshi Kashyap will take on Japan’s unseeded Natsuki Nidaira. Malvika Bansod will face a tough challenge from top seed Carolina Marin.
In the doubles, MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila will face qualifiers Shuntaro Mezaki and Haruya Nishida in the second round. In the Women’s Doubles, Sikki Reddy and Arathi Sunil will set up clash against Japan’s Hirokami-Kato duo.
