The World No.1 is facing Aryna Sabalenka in a blockbuster final in the WTA 1000 tournament on Saturday, 6th May 2023. Both the players are facing each other for the second successive time in a final in the WTA Tour. They met last week at the Stuttgart Open final with Swiatek winning the title. - Iga Swiatek will be in action in her fifth WTA 1000 tournament final. She has won titles previously at the Qatar Open, Indian Wells, Miami and Italian Open.
- Swiatek’s previous best performance at Madrid was reaching the third round in 2021. She didn’t participate in the tournament last year.
- She began her campaign in the WTA 1000 event this year in the second round. She defeated Julia Grabher 6-3,6-2.
- In the third round she met 28th seed Bernarda Pera and yet again dominated the contest with a straight set win.
- She then faced Ekaterina Alexandrova, the 16th seed in the tournament and dropped a set. However she managed to win the contest 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.
- In the quarterfinal and semifinal, she dominated as she dropped just five games to make her way into the final.
- Aryna Sabalenka is aiming to win her second title Madrid Open title. The Belarusian had lifted the title in the tournament for the first time in her career in 2021.
- The second seed began her campaign in the tournament this year in the second round. She defeated Sorana Cirstea in straight sets.
- In the next two rounds she continues her form with straight set wins against Osorio Serrano and Mirra Andreeva.
- In the quarterfinal she dropped the first set against Mayar Sherif but fought back to seal a 6-2, 2-6, 1-6 victory to advance to the semifinal.
- In the last-4 stage she faced ninth seed Maria Sakkari and clinched a 6-4, 6-1 victory to set up clash against Iga Swiatek in the final.
Swiatek vs Sabalenka Head-to-Head: Both the players will be facing each other for the eighth time in the WTA Tour. Swiatek leads the head-to-head record 5-2.
