Manchester United are edging ever closer to a deal for Christian Eriksen.

Terms have been verbally agreed with the Dane, who is a free agent this summer following the expiration of his Brentford contract. He produced an astonishing comeback with the Bees just seven months after his on-field cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

As a result, he is among Erik ten Hag’s targets this summer. The new United boss’ transfer plans have been altered after Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit plea.

The superstar has not travelled to Bangkok with the squad for their pre-season tour ahead of their friendly with Liverpool due to family reasons. United had been linked with a move for attacker Brian Brobbey.

But the Manchester Evening News understands that the attacker is now on his way to Ajax. Ten Hag is looking for at least one more attacker as well as a number of defensive reinforcements.

United have completed their first summer signing and now Erik ten Hag is desperate for more.

The Times say Ten Hag is urging United to improve their offers for Ajax duo Lisandro Martinez and Antony, with a desire for both of the deals to be completed quickly.

This report isn’t really a surprise.

Frenkie de Jong has made it clear he’d rather stay at Barcelona this summer than join United and Sport reiterate his preference.

They say the Dutch international has his heart set on remaining at the Catalan club.

Manchester United have touched down in Thailand as their pre-season tour begins.

Erik ten Hag has taken 31 players to Bangkok in his first summer as United boss. The main talking point has been Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence, with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner not returning to training due to family reasons amid his transfer request.

The players were greeted by supporters at the Don Mueang International Airport. They were soon put through their paces in training ahead of their first pre-season friendly against Liverpool on Tuesday.

Manchester United expect Dutch forward Brian Brobbey to sign for Ajax.

Brobbey, 20, has emerged as the latest Dutch-affiliated player new United manager Erik ten Hag has targeted amid doubts over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future.

Ajax have already reinforced their attack with the signing of Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham and senior United sources expect Brobbey to join the Dutch champions permanently.

Manchester United target Lisandro Martinez has reportedly demanded Ajax sell him to the Red Devils in the next 48 hours. The Argentina international has also attracted interest from Arsenal. However, a move to Old Trafford now seems to be on the cards with the 24-year-old eager to reunite with Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United want a new defender to provide competition for the likes of Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof.

And, according to The Mirror, the Red Devils are in pole position to secure Martinez’s signing.

The Argentine is reportedly ready to ‘go to war’ with his current employers, with many team-mates thinking his mind is now made up.

Martinez could even refuse to attend training should Ajax refuse to let him go and wants an arrangement with United to be rubber-stamped within the next 48 hours.

They’ve put £43m on the table for the South American but Ajax, who are determined to keep hold of their best players, want even more in order to let him go.

Martinez is supposedly losing patience with Ajax as a result, with the Eredivisie giants hoping for a ‘bidding war’ to break out.

He wants to move to United to play under Ten Hag, having spent the last three years performing under the Argentine in Amsterdam.

Martinez was signed as a replacement for Matthijs de Ligt back in the summer transfer window of 2019, shortly after the Dutchman’s move to Juventus.

And he’s not disappointed in the time since, helping Ajax win four trophies during that spell.

The report adds that United remain hopeful of signing Frenkie de Jong this summer, too, even though that saga remains ongoing.

Reports in Catalonia have claimed the Barcelona star is reluctant to leave the Nou Camp, despite Ten Hag’s best attempts to secure his signature.

Yet United are staying calm and continue to work on a transfer as they gear up for the start of the new Premier League season.

As well as De Jong and Martinez, the Red Devils are also pushing to land Christian Eriksen.

And they appear to be onto a winner with that signing, with the Denmark international having a verbal agreement with the fallen Premier League giants over a move to Manchester this summer.

Tyrell Malacia remains the only new recruit so far, with the Dutchman moving from Feyenoord.

And Ten Hag has opened up on the 22-year-old to club media, saying: “He’s a player, so I think he’s the modern left-back or full-back.

“He suits the profile and most important is, from every full-back, that he closes the right area, but he can also take part in the offensive side of our game, and he can do that really well.

“And I think he will really contribute to the team.”

Martinez, meanwhile, recently insisted he was ‘proud’ of his Ajax legacy.

“I am so proud of what I have achieved at Ajax and under Ten Hag,” he said.

“I grew as a player and became an Argentinian international thanks to my development at Ajax.

“And I even got to wear the captaincy armband for my country.

“That was the day my father cried, it was very emotional. My mum cried too, my uncles, aunties, cousins, everyone.

“The World Cup is definitely my goal. We have great players and we must all be ready for it. We won the Copa America together and can do it again.”

Manchester United have jetted out for their pre-season tour with the first stop being Bangkok. As promised, new manager Erik ten Hag has given each of his players a clean slate and wants to see them perform before coming to a final decision. Once looked at as a sure-shot star, Axel Tuanzebe has fallen way down the pecking order.

The centre-back’s injury woes and disastrous loan spell at Italian giants Napoli last term might just have sounded his death knell at United.

And now reports have emerged stating that Turkish club Trabzonspor are eyeing up the United academy graduate and could make a move for him in the near future.

According to Turkish publication Fanatik, the Süper Lig outfit are in desperate need of a solid presence at the back and have entered the foreign defenders market.

They tried in vain to acquire Sassuolo’s versatile defender Kaan Ayhan before going on to Shakhtar Donetsk defender Marlon. So far, their attempts have ended in failure but they will try one more time before switching their attention to Tuanzebe.

The 24-year-old’s name has cropped up in meetings and the club officials are aware that a deal can be negotiated considering the England U-21 international is not part of Ten Hag’s plans.

According to Fotomac, a €4 million offer is on the table should the Premier league giants be willing to accept.

Another Turkish publication Sabah have also backed up these claims and also mentioned that there are other European defenders the club will take a look at. The DR Congo-born athlete is currently one of many options being considered by the seven time Süper Lig champions.

It has already been reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano that the Red Devils are looking to offload the academy graduate should they find a buyer. Fellow defenders Phil Jones and Eric Bailly will also be shown the door if any club shows interest.

Tuanzebe is a part of the pre-season tour squad and despite these reports, he will look to give it his best shot in order to impress the new boss.

Even if he fails there is a chance some club will bid for him and he can get some regular minutes.

He has been praised in the past by the likes of Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and got his real chance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. His performance against Kylian Mbappe of PSG in the Champions League was a notable highlight.

But injuries have consistently blighted his progress and a move away seems to be the best possible choice for both parties at the moment.

Tuanzebe has enjoyed success in the Championship with Aston Villa and even played in the Premier League for the club but soon fell out of favour with current manager Steven Gerrard. Napoli acquired his services but it turned out to be a disastrous move.

Manchester United trained in Bangkok for the first time on Saturday afternoon, hours after landing in the Thai capital.

The flight between Manchester and the south-east Asian city took around 12 hours, meaning the aeroplane checked in to Don Mueang Airport shortly after 10am local time.

With the club in Thailand for the first time since 2013, United’s players and staff were greeted with a warm welcome, as fans packed inside the terminal building and waited outside the team hotel to greet them.

After acclimatising to their new surroundings, Erik ten Hag and his squad left for the STB Academy under leaden skies and when they arrived, the heavens had opened and increased the muggy feeling on an already very humid afternoon.
