United confirmed Weghorst’s number
Manchester United have revealed what number Wout Weghorst will wear for Manchester United for the rest of the season.
The striker arrives at Old Trafford on loan for the remainder of the season after his stay with Besiktas was ended by mutual consent on Friday. United have paid £2.6 million in compensation to the Turkish club through parent club Burnley after the Clarets failed to include a recall clause in their change-of-season agreement.
United have no option to buy at the end of the season. Weghorst scored nine goals in 18 games for Besiktas after netting just two goals in 20 Premier League games for Burnley last term. He famously scored both of Netherlands’ comeback goals in the World Cup quarter-final against Argentina last month.
The Ten Hag explains Weghorst’s signing
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has explained why he decided to loan Wout Weghorst from Burnley for the remainder of the season.
Weghorst is at Besiktas on loan for the first half of the season following the Clarets’ relegation from the Premier League. During his time in Turkey, the 30-year-old target man scored nine goals in 18 appearances.
However, it was at the World Cup that Weghorst really caught the eye. His two dramatic goals for the Netherlands against Argentina demonstrated what the striker is capable of.
