Manchester United continue to search for their first summer signing today after the Premier League fixtures were announced on Thursday.
Erik ten Hag’s first match in the Premier League will be at home to Brighton and Hove Albion while his first taste of a competitive fixture against Liverpool will be on Saturday, August 20. Before then, United will need to strengthen their squad and Ajax’s Jurrien Timber is one of the players linked with a move to Old Trafford.
However, reports in the Netherlands have suggested that Timber is leaning towards staying at the Amsterdam club this summer. It has previously been suggested that the centre-back is unwilling to make the move to Manchester as it could jeopardise his chances of making the World Cup.
One player who will definitely not be at United next season is Paul Pogba. The Frenchman may have burnt plenty of bridges at the Theatre of Dreams on his way out of the club after comments he made in Amazon Prime’s new documentary, ‘The Pogmentary’, were released.
Pogba criticised the club’s new contract offers on camera before comparing himself to Jesus.
United have been offering Aaron Wan-Bissaka to clubs this summer and it is believed a return to Crystal Palace on loan is the most likely outcome right now.
Jurrien Timber is now more likely to remain at Ajax this summer, according to reports.
The Metro loosely cite another report from Dutch reporter Mike Verweij who says Timber has determined that it’s too much of a risk to move to Old Trafford at this point in time.
United are keen on a move for the Dutch defender, but he is keen to keep his place in Louis van Gaal’s side ahead of the World Cup and doesn’t want to risk losing playing time.
United have given Dean Henderson the ‘green light’ to join Nottingham Forest, according to The Telegraph.
They claim a loan deal is now at an advanced stage, which means Erik ten Hag will not even take a look at him in pre-season, if a deal is concluded quickly.
It is also suggested Henderson could leave on a straight loan deal with no option to buy him at the end of it. That would rule out any loan reutrn for James Garner due to Premier League rules.
This is an odd one.
MARCA have published a list of every Premier League club and the players they are supposedly looking to sign this summer.
There are plenty of names listed below the entry for United, as you’d expect, but perhaps most interesting is their entry for Leeds, which claims Phil Jones is of interest this summer.
Barcelona already have a replacement in mind for Frenkie de Jong, according to a report.
Sportclaim the La Liga giants believe the exciting homegrown talent, Nico Gonzalez, could help to fill the void should the Dutchman be sold this summer.
Paul Pogba’s final appearance for Manchester United was against Liverpool in April. Pogba started at Anfield but he lasted just 10 minutes on the pitch. Just three days before that game, Pogba had arrogantly cupped his ear to the Stretford End.
That gesture from Pogba was met by ‘f*** off’ and audible boos. Although Pogba claims to ‘love’ United, that was a strange way of showing it. The player’s marriage with the club has been toxic for some time now and divorce this summer was inevitable. Pogba has failed during his second stint at Old Trafford and he won’t be fondly remembered. The ‘#Pogback’ experiment didn’t work.
Pogba seemed to have the world at his feet when he re-signed for United in 2016 for a then world record transfer fee of £89million. Pogba had scored 34 goals and notched 40 assists across his four years in Turin and had established himself as one of Europe’s finest midfielders. His return to Manchester was a transfer for the romantics, but this fairy-tale rarely looked like having a happy ending.
Manchester United fans aren’t taking the latest reports that Jurrien Timber has decided against a move to Old Trafford too well.
The Ajax defender has been made United’s defensive priority this summer as Erik ten Hag gets down to work on his rebuild at Old Trafford. The new United boss is keen to bring the 20-year-old with him to the Premier League after an impressive couple of years in the Netherlands.
No deal has yet been reached, and according to the latest reports from Timber’s homeland, United could be denied in their pursuit of the youngster. Dutch journalist Mike Verweij has suggested the defender is leaning more towards staying with Ajax.
Manchester United have yet to make a signing under Erik ten Hag this summer – and there’s plenty of work to be done.
The Dutch boss made Frenkie de Jong his No.1 target but the Barcelona midfielder dealt United a hammer blow by insisting he has no intention of moving to Manchester. This has led the club turn to Christian Eriksen who has impressed at Brentford since making his comeback to football.
Elsewhere, defensive reinforcements are needed following a poor season from Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane. But any chance of landing Jurrien Timber now seems unlikely.
The Metro have loosely cited reports in Netherlands claiming Timber has turned down United because the move is too much of a ‘risk’.
It seems the defender will now be the second player to reject Ten Hag, following in the footsteps of Frenkie de Jong.
This could turn into a nightmare transfer window for United….
It seems, finally, Phil Jones will leave the club this summer.
According to Marca, Leeds are interested in bringing in the defender, with Jesse Marsch keen to strengthen his backline.
He only made four appearances last season after an emotional comeback and the time has come, at last, to move him on.
It seems the Ajax defender, who was seen as a straightforward signing for United, has turned the club down!
That is according to reports in the Netherlands.
Needless to say, United fans have wasted no time in blasting this as a “nightmare” scenario.
