Co-Players of the Week: Georgia’s Hamish Stewart was perfect this past weekend going 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles. His singles win against LSU clinched the match for 4-0 win for Georgia and he and doubles partner Tristan McCormick clinched the doubles point for the Bulldogs earlier in the match. The No.17-ranked singles player started out the weekend with a nationally ranked win over No.36 Nikola Slavik of No.43 Ole Miss. Stewart def. Slavik in dominant fashion, 6-1, 6-2. The No.65-ranked doubles team of Stewart and McCormick were up 5-3 against the No.12-ranked duo of Finn Reynolds and Lukas Engelhardt when the Bulldogs clinched the doubles point. Georgia went on to blank the Rebels, 4-0 in Oxford, Mississippi. On Sunday, Stewart and the Bulldogs returned home to face No38-ranked LSU. Stewart and McCormick clinched the doubles point for Georgia in a 6-3 victory over Gabriel Diaz Freire and Kent Hunter. Stewart then kept the momentum going with a 6-4,6-2 win over Vlad Lobak to clinch the 4-0 victory for Georgia. Georgia’s No.1 singles player improves to 23-11 overall, 15-5 in the dual season, 6-3 against conference opponents and 13-7 against nationally ranked opponents. He has won seven out of his last ten matches and is on a three-match singles win streak. Georgia’s No.1 doubles pair of Stewart and McCormick are 10-8 overall, 7-6 in the dual season, 2-4 against conference opponents and have won five of their last ten matches. Stewart has the most overall and dual competition wins on the Georgia roster. His efforts this weekend helped Georgia improve to 7-2 against SEC opponents and 15-5 overall.
South Carolina’s Daniel Rodrigues earned his eighth and ninth consecutive singles wins over ranked opponents over the weekend, both in straight sets. Rodrigues started the weekend by taking down No. 44 George Harwell of Alabama 6-4, 7-6(5) at the top of the lineup. He then followed it with another ranked win over No. 94 Liam Draxl of Kentucky 6-4, 6-1. Rodrigues is now 18-2 from the No. 1 position and has a 14-2 record over ranked opponents. The junior also earned a ranked doubles win over the weekend. Rodrigues and partner Connor Thomson took down No. 80 pair Troost/Ross of Vanderbilt in a dominant 6-2 decision. Rodrigues is now 16-3 in doubles and 6-2 against ranked doubles opponents.
Freshman of the Week: Texas A&M’s Giulio Perego went 2-0 on the week in singles, marking the second straight week that he has gone unbeaten in singles against conference foes. He opened the weekend with a three set win against German Samofalov of Alabama, 7-6(1), 6-7(1), 6-3. He then raced through a 6-3, 6-4 win against Raul Dobai of Auburn to move to a team-best in 11-4 in dual matches. With the 2-0 weekend against SEC foes, Perego improved to a team-best 7-1 in conference matches. Also got a doubles win against Alabama duo Aguiard /Martin, 6-2.
