Odion Ighalo is one of a number of strikers Newcastle United are eyeing ahead of the January transfer window.

Ighalo, who spent previous spells in the Premier League with Watford and Manchester United, is currently playing for the youth team in Saudi Arabia.

Youngsters have informally asked Ighalo if he would be interested if Newcastle came for him, and Sky Sports News has been told he would seriously consider the move if contacted.

Ighalo is the joint top scorer in the Saudi Professional League this season with nine goals. The Nigerian has moved to the Middle East from China’s Shanghai Shenhua after his loan deal at Old Trafford expired earlier this year.

The 32-year-old’s contract with Al Shabab expires in the summer of 2023.

Ighalo scored 40 goals in 100 games for Watford between 2014 and 2017 and scored five goals in 23 games for United during his year at the club between January 2020 and January 2021.

Who are the players linked with Newcastle?
The transfer window opens on January 1, when Newcastle will have their first chance to enter the transfer market since the Saudi-backed purchase of Mike Ashley.

A large number of players have been linked, including Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele and Tottenham’s midfielder Joe Rodon.
