Nottingham Forest have completed the signings of Bayern Munich and former England U21 left-back Omar Richards.

The 24-year-old defender returned to England a year after a move from Reading to Bayern and Richards signed a four-year contract at City Ground.

Richards is Forest’s fifth summer arrival and the left defender will connect with Steve Cooper’s team ahead of a friendly against Burton Albion at Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday.

Richards said on Forest’s official website: “I am delighted to be joining Nottingham Forest and returning to England at such an exciting time.” “The club has had an amazing time over the past few months and has great ambitions for a return to the Premier League.

“I’ve played with Forest in the past and they have a lot of support from the fans, and City Ground is now an amazing place I can call home.”

Williams to join from Liverpool

Richards will be one of Forest’s two full-back deals in this window as the newly promoted team is close to signing a £16m deal for Liverpool full-back Neco Williams.

Reference:

Williams spent the second half of last season on loan with championship-winner Fulham. There he appeared in 14 league matches, assisting with two and two goals for the West London team.

The full-back has spent his entire Anfield career replacing right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, the club’s first choice. That means he has only made 33 appearances in all competitions since his debut in October 2019.

However, Williams is expected to start as Wales’ right-back in the Qatar World Cup final this winter.

Forest completed four deals before announcing Richards’ arrival. Goalkeeper Dean Henderson is on loan from Manchester United, defender Giulian Biancone is on loan from Troyes, striker Taiwo Awoniyi is on loan from Club Records on a contract and Moussa Niakhate is on loan from Mainz on a £17m contract.
