NRL news | Jordie Barrett

The Warriors are considering making an approach to Jordie Barrett after the All Blacks’ star fullback declared he would like a crack at rugby league.

In what would prove the perfect ‘revenge signing’ for the NZRU’s acquisition of former Warriors superstar Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, the Warriors are exploring the possibilities of adding Barrett to their roster.

The move comes after the 24-year-old Wellington Hurricanes fullback declared his interest in league on a Kiwi podcast.

“To be honest, every off-season or every time I’m sitting there watching a rugby league game, I think, s–t I’d love to go over there and play some league just for a season,” Barrett said on the ‘What A Lad’ podcast.

“And who knows, I might. It crosses my mind a lot.

“I’m not sure what position I’d play, but I’d love to go over there and give it a crack, who knows.”

Barrett has played 36 Tests for the All Blacks and is regarded as one of the best ball-runners in world rugby.

The Warriors have a ready made replacement for Tuivasa-Sheck in youngster Reece Walsh but both he and Barrett are versatile players who could fill several positions.

Signing Barrett would be a massive coup for the Warriors, who live very much in the shadow of the All Blacks in New Zealand sport.
