Ottoman Fleet overcame an awkward start to claim victory at Newmarket’s Denbury Homes Fairway Stakes.

Trained by Charlie Appleby, Ottoman Fleet was stripped of a 13/8 chance for the listing contest, but jockey James Doyle stumbled out of the stables and hastened to maintain the partnership and restore conditions.

The King Edward VII Stakes item regained composure and was poised for a challenge by running a couple of furlongs and was pushed back before Zain Sarinda, who raced prominently from afar.

Its rivals proved their game by fighting all the way to the line, but the Ottoman Fleet was so strong that Savvy Victory led by 1/4 in extra length and finished third with 1/4.

Doyle said: “He didn’t have the best start. He reached out from the stable and almost fell, but luckily he found a leg and I was able to stay with him.

“After that, it was really simple. The race went well. Maybe he found the ground fast enough but he had a good attitude.

“There isn’t much you can do (when that happens in the first place). I hope the speed is real and it doesn’t build up too much.

“They ran a long way and Andrew Balding’s Groundbreaker had them race down in four to open them up a bit.”

King Edward VII competes over 12 furlongs at Royal Ascot, and Doyle believes Sea The Stars gelding will be no problem on longer trips.

He said: “I’ll leave the plan to Charlie because he’s the boss of the job. He’s got over a quarter of a mile there and I’m sure he’ll have 1.5 miles left, but he’s not slow at the same time. “

After two great days at Newmarket, winning both 2000 and 1000 Guinea titles, Doyle added: It’s always good to get a winner here.”

She’s far behind last year, and it’s a sign of gratitude that she’s made it one step further to the 1 mile from ParisLongchamp.

She obviously needs to improve again on what she’s shown so far, but she deserves a chance against some high-end mares, including George Boughey’s Qipco 1,000 Guinea winner Cachet. He is very tough and sets a good standard for all his rivals to aim for. .

An angel chasing a precious black type
INTERNATIONALANGEL’s form improved in a timely manner, before taking the entry class for Prix Maurice Zilber (4.35) at ParisLongchamp on Sunday.

Princess Highfield, who defeated her with her driving finish at the Fillies’ and Mares’ Championship on All-Weather Finals Day, was an impressive winner in this week’s Group Two Duke of York Stakes.

Jane Chapple-Hyam did a fantastic job with this mare. It looks like these mares can prove themselves at a higher level and gain valuable black breeds in the process.

Jane is very clever in positioning her horses and this seems like an ideal mission.

Ground, Trueshan Plan Pending
Trueshan appeared as intended in the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup because of the lack of the word ‘soft’ in the description going on in York.

It makes no sense to declare his own star performer when it was clear that Alan King wouldn’t get his ideal conditions.

Thankfully, Alan played him last month at the Listed Barry Hills extra flight stake in Nottingham, where he clinched an impressive win. .

My other Group 1 winner Glen Shiel got a little rusty when he made his first start in seven months at Haydock Park last weekend, but he did very well in the condition race.

Ireland’s Greenlands Stakes are mentioned as another possible stepping stone to Royal Ascot’s Platinum Jubilee Stakes, but like Trueshan, he needs a little juice under his feet to show off his best form, so it’s ground dependent.
