Ralf Rangnick praises two Manchester United stars despite Newcastle stalemate
Newcastle vs Manchester United
Manchester United returned to action for the first time since their Covid-19 outbreak at the club on Monday evening.
The Red Devils would face a trip up north for a clash with a Newcastle side still fighting it out in the relegation zone.
Despite this, Ralf Rangnick’s side were unable to come away from St James’ Park with a win.
Allan Saint-Maximin fired the hosts into the lead after just seven minutes.

A lacklustre Manchester United side then struggled to create any sort of decent chances, with the Reds only salvaging a point thanks to a 71st-minute goal from substitute, Edinson Cavani.

Ralf Rangnick praises Manchester United stars
On the day, very few Manchester United stars impressed against Newcastle.
Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford in particular were very poor for a second game running.
However, Ralf Rangnick was still able to praise two players after the game.
The players in question were Edinson Cavani, who added some much-needed life to United’s attack when he came on and also David de Gea, who did well to keep Newcastle’s goal tally for the day at just one:
“I think we were better in some games so far in the past, but it’s also about getting results and again the good thing today was we came back and we got the equaliser.
“In the end it could have been 2-2 – again there were two or three fantastic saves from David De Gea, similar to the game at Norwich, but we also had our chances to score a second goal.
“For sure, David is one of the best goalkeepers in the world – he showed that at Norwich and in the game today.”
On Cavani, Rangnick said:
“Edinson is a top striker who has been out with injury but it was good to have him on board again and to bring him on at half-time.”
