Report: Pistons assistant believes Doncic spoke ‘disrespectfully’ to Casey

Not only did Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic almost single-handedly send the Detroit Pistons to a 111-105 loss on Monday night, he reportedly was also disrespectful to former Toronto Raptors and current Pistons head coach Dwayne Casey.

According to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears, Pistons assistant coach Jerome Allen believes that Doncic “spoke very disrespectfully” to Casey, which is why Allen was seen getting into it with the Mavericks guard at multiple points throughout the game.

Doncic, who dropped an absurd 24 points in the first quarter on his way to the 53-point outburst, was asked about the altercation after the game by Bally Sports.

“It was their assistant coach he started chirping in the first quarter,” explained Doncic. “They didn’t like when I chirped back they said ‘play basketball.’ If they are going to chirp at me, I’m going to chip back. I ain’t scared.”

He also apparently wasn’t afraid to score the basketball, totalling nearly half of his team’s points.

As far as Casey’s take on the whole situation? Well, let’s just say he’s seen worse.

“It’s a bunch of nothing, a bunch of nothing,” Casey told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. “We’ve seen worse. Remember I coached Gary Payton and Kevin Garnett, so that tonight was zero as far as chirping. I liked it.”

Sounds like Doncic needs to step up his trash talk if he’s going to keep Casey up at night.

The Pistons and Mavericks have already played their allotted two games this season, so any hopes of a budding rivalry between the two squads will have to wait until next season.

With the win, the Mavericks moved into sixth in the Western Conference, the final playoff spot that avoids the NBA’s new play-in games. The Pistons are on the other end of the spectrum, and with the league’s second-worst record, their fans can officially start dreaming about Victor Wembanyama in a Detroit uniform.
