Sean Abbott becomes all-time leading wicket-taker as Sixers beat Strikers

Fast-bowler Sean Abbott has become the all-time leading wicket-taker in BBL history, as the Sixers beat the Strikers by four wickets at the SCG.

Abbott took 3-24 off four overs in a player of the match performance, and now has 112 wickets in the 11 seasons the competition has been running.

That takes him past Ben Laughlin, who claimed 111 scalps for the Hurricanes, Strikers and Heat.

Abbott, who took 10 wickets for the Sydney Thunder in BBL01 and BBL02, also reached 100 wickets for the Sixers in last night’s match.

His first two overs went a long way to securing the win for the Sixers, dismissing both Strikes openers in Matt Short and Jake Weatherald.

The 29-year-old was returning to the Sixers side having recently welcomed his first child, with the birth of daughter Ella.

He also finished the match off with a handy 19 not out off 10 balls, as the Sixers won with four balls to spare.

“I’m pretty grateful and fortunate to be in the environment I am here at the Sixers,” Abbott said.

Needing six to win off Peter Siddle’s final over, Hayden Kerr hit the first ball he faced for two over cover, before launching the second ball into the crowd over mid-wicket to seal the victory.

The Sixers are now tied with arch-rivals Perth Scorchers at the top of the table.
