The 41-year-old had to isolate himself earlier this year while serving as Rangers manager and missed matches against Alashkert and Celtic.

Villa had to postpone her game against Burnley last Saturday due to an outbreak of the virus at the club.

Three Premier League games have already been canceled on Sunday, with Liverpool’s home game against Leeds, Watford’s trip to the Wolves and Burnley’s game against Everton all failing due to the virus.

The game against Chelsea at Villa Park is one of six Premier League games still to be played.

Gerrard was Rangers manager for three years before moving to Villa on November 11 to take over from Dean Smith, who was fired after five losses.

Since then, Villa has won four of their six Premier League games, both losing to Manchester City and his former club Liverpool.

A statement from the club said: “Aston Villa can confirm that head coach Steven Gerrard will not be able to attend our next two Premier League games against Chelsea and Leeds United as he is isolating himself after a positive Covid-19 test.”
