Melbourne has lost two major names in their season opener against the Wests Tigers, with George Jennings carried off with a knee injury and Brandon Smith departing with a suspected broken hand.

It will be Jennings who causes the most concern for the Melbourne medical team, as he went over on his knee under no pressure or contact from the Tigers defence.

Jake Duke, reporting from the sideline for Fox League, confirmed the worst fears, saying that the Storm staff thought that it was an ACL tear.

If that were the case, it might see Jennings’ season over within the first half of the first game.

Smith had already departed with a suspected broken hand, sustained just two minutes into the contest. He was replaced by Tyran Wishart and later reappeared on the sideline with his arm in a sling.
