MANCHESTER UNITED are looking to sign Tyrell Malacia in this summer's transfer window.
Tyrell Malacia has chosen to join Manchester United over Lyon, according to reports. The Feyenoord left-back impressed Erik ten Hag with his performances in last season’s Eredivisie. And while he looks ready to move to Ligue 1, he is ready to play his football at Old Trafford next season.
Manchester United spent most of the summer seeking a deal for Frenkie de Jong, who is now set to leave Barcelona after a deal with the La Liga giants was reached.
And with the 25-year-old sharing an agent with Malacia, the Red Devils can now also attack Feyenoord’s star.
The winger made a positive impression on Ten Hag last season, shining when Feyenoord reached the final of the UEFA Conference League, where they were eventually defeated by José Mourinho’s Roma.
As a result, Lyon were hoping to get the Dutch international.
But L’Equipe says Malacia has now chosen to join United, with the centre-back set to play under Ten Hag next season.
This deals a significant blow to the Red Devils, who are hoping to increase their full-back options this summer.
Malacia is expected to be Luke Shaw’s second fiddle at first, before eventually replacing the England international.
And his move to the Red Devils means two of his current left-backs are now ready to be shown at the door, with United well-stocked in that department.
They expected great things from Alex Telles when he landed at Porto in the summer 2020 transfer window.
However, the Brazilian international did not meet expectations and, now, was considered exceeding the requirements.
Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Brandon Williams was tipped for a bright future at the club.
He did well enough on loan to Norwich City last season despite the Canaries succumbing to relegation from the Premier League by winning just five of their 38 league games.
But Williams is another player who must now leave Old Trafford as well.
United are unlikely to stop with the signings of De Jong and Malacia as Ten Hag looks to make his mark on the Premier League the first time he asks.
They are also interested in another quarterback, with Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones for sale.
And the Ten Hag are keen to secure a reunion with Lisandro Martinez, who impressed playing under the 52-year-old Ajax when they won the Eredivisie title last season.
Antony is another player in his sights as well.
The Brazilian international, like Martinez, flourished playing under Ten Hag in Amsterdam – scoring eight goals and recording four assists in 23 league games last time around.
And while he is expensive, United hope to be able to bargain on Antony’s price – as they did with De Jong.
Malacia, meanwhile, was recently asked about a possible move to United.
And, with a big smile on his face, he said, “I’m certainly ready for the next step.”
Malacia said, however, that he is not really thinking about his future at a time when United are looking to grab him.
“But first I want to focus on the orange team and play here,” said the centre-back, who hopes to play for the Netherlands at the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
“I feel like everything happens for a reason and everything is written down.
“If it’s the right time, it’s the right time. I’m not really thinking about it, it’s in the back of my mind.
“But I don’t want to comment on that.”
