Why Bruno Fernandes will not be available for Manchester United’s clash with Burnley

Manchester United slump to draw against Newcastle United

Manchester United produced one of their worst performances of the season as they slumped to a 1-1 draw with 19th placed Newcastle, ending their winning run under new boss Ralf Rangnick in the process.

Having not played in 16 days after a COVID-19 outbreak at the training ground, the Red Devils should have been sharp and up for the game, but it was Newcastle who dominated the affair, and who will come away thinking that they should have won.

Allan Saint-Maximin handed them the lead 7 minutes in, taking advantage of a mistake from the returning Raphael Varane to curl past David De Gea, and at half time Newcastle were good value for their lead.

Saint-Maximin missed a glorious chance to double their advantage early on in the second half, seeing his effort from four yards out saved by De Gea, before Edinson Cavani, on as a half time substitute, levelled the affair.

And, with injuries to both ASM and Callum Wilson, Newcastle struggled to find a winner, ultimately having to share the spoils with an undeserving Manchester United, who will head back to Old Trafford knowing that they need to be better if they want to challenge for European football come the end of the season.

And, against Burnley, they will have to find a performance without a key man.

Bruno Fernandes out of Burnley clash

Now, Bruno Fernandes has been ruled out of the upcoming clash with Burnley, due to take place on Thursday evening.

The midfielder has been far from his best, but still remains one of the only recognised options in attacking midfield for the Red Devils, especially with Jesse Lingard’s contract running down in the summer.

However, the Portuguese picked up a yellow card for dissent against Newcastle, ruling him out of the clash with Sean Dyche’s men.

Will Manchester United still be able to find a much-needed result to round off 2021?
